DETROIT – Occupy DTE brought over 300 community members on January 26 to the downtown headquarters of DTE. They were looking to shed some light on several issues that have been brought to their attention concerning DTE. The rally was organized by “Good Jobs Now” and some pastors from various local communities. Some of the communities represented were Detroit, Inkster, Garden City andWestland.
Some of the issues that were in the spotlight was the increases that DTE has been allowed to receive over the past six years. In 2006, they were allowed to increase their rates to the tune of $ and again in 2008, they received an $ increase. Bishop Walter Stargill of Face to Face Ministries was one of the organizers for the event. He said, “I would love for DTE to have a Fresh Start Plan where they would erase the past due balance from the accounts and have the customers start fresh. Times have been hard and many people need some type of relief. We would also like DTE to partner more with grassroot organizations like they do with the United Way. “ Other pastors that were in attendance were Pastor Homer Jameson, Pastor John Hearn, Jr., Pastor Willie Walker and Pastor Willie J. Rideout
The sentiment came across loud and clear and the peaceful protestors chanted ‘No more shut-offs and carried signs with their messages to help get the point across. Some signs read DTE pay your Taxes, No more Read More
