Ecorse
On Wednesday, May 24, Ecorse residents are invited to attend a Community Wide Block Party being held at Ann Visger Preparatory Academy in River Rouge from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. The Block Party will include entertainment, food, games, community partners and stakeholders, and a raffle. Ann Visger School is located at 11121 W. Jefferson Ave.
On Monday, May 29, the Ecorse Historical Society will host the Annual Veterans’ Memorial Day Celebration at John D. Dingell Park from 12 to 1 p.m. Veterans registered with the city’s Veteran’s Registry are invited to attend. Veterans not registered with the Veteran’s Registry are encouraged to fill out a registration form at the Ecorse City Clerk’s Office. Veterans will be honored at the celebration along with those who have fallen.
River Rouge
The Splash Park opens for the season on Friday, May 26. On Sunday, May 28, a Movie in the Park event is planned and will include walking tacos and gift bags for the kids, starting at 6 p.m.
A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 27 at the Memorial Park flagpole at noon. Afterward, attendees will proceed to the Pine and Jefferson Memorial. All are invited to attend.
Westland
The city of Westland will hold a Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 28 at 1 p .m. The parade will begin at John Glenn High School and proceed north to the Veterans’ Memorial Garden located behind the William P. Faust Pubic Library, located at 6123 Central City Parkway.
On Saturday, June 3, the city of Westland will host a Community Shred Day at the Westland Public Library’s temporary location at Marshall School located at 35100 Bayview Street. Residents can bring up to five boxes of paper documents to be shredded; please no plastic bags. The service is free and will run from noon to 2 p.m.
The Westland Farmers and Artisans Market will open for the season on Thursday, May 25. The market will be open Thursdays through October 12 from 3 to 7 p.m. and is located at 1901 N. Carlson at the Farmers Market and Lions Club Pavilion.
The Norwayne Community Gardens are hosting an Open House at the Newago Garden, located at the corner of Newago and Dorsey Streets, west of Merriman Road. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature cooking demonstrations, flower giveaways, and information for those who wish to volunteer for this season or are looking for a garden bed to plant. Wayne County
Saturday in the Park is going on now through September 30 in Hines Park. Hines Drive will be closed to vehicle traffic each Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. from Outer Drive to Ann Arbor Trail for walking, biking, and skating.
