Westwood Board Members Cheryl Bell-Everett and Donald Willis recently earned awards from the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) for their efforts to improve their leadership skills, while demonstrating their commitment to student achievement.

They achieved the Master Board Member level for classes completed in MASB's leadership training program, as well as for conference attendance, years of service and leadership activities. Master Board Members have completed three levels of training, at least nine advanced classes and a minimum of 368 education credits awarded by MASB.

Mrs. Bell-Everett and Mr. Willis are both residents of Dearborn Heights. Mrs. Bell-Everett is the Board's Vice President, and Mr. Willis is the Treasurer. They have been on the Board since 2009 and 2011, respectively.

"I am proud of the accomplishments of both Mrs. Bell-Everett and Mr. Willis. They've been on the Board for several years, and they have worked tirelessly on behalf of the District's children," Westwood Board President Timothy Emery said.

"They serve on various Board subcommittees, work with our students in the schools as committed parents and volunteers, as well as serve in other organizations. This award is in addition to completing the extra training offered by MASB," Mr. Emery continued.

Willis Donald

Westwood Community School District is a public K-12 district located in Dearborn Heights, Dearborn, and Inkster, Michigan. Westwood has caring, dedicated staff and programs suited to prepare students for college and career. Westwood offers STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) courses at every grade level, project-based learning opportunities, and hands-on math. Westwood also offers a Cyber High School and an alternative high school, dual enrollment with UM-Dearborn, advanced placement classes, JROTC, music, robotics, art, career training, and swimming. Students learn through the use of iPads, computers, and interactive boards in the classroom. Afterschool programs include Boy Scouts, 21st Century program, and school clubs.
