The Robichaud High School Athletic Hall of Fame is intended to honor the rich heritage and tradition of the great teams, individuals, and contributors to Robichaud Athletics throughout the years. It is with great pleasure to announce the new RHS Hall of Fame Inductees for the Class of 2018.

Alex White '93-Football

· A giant of a man, who dominated 1989-1993 (6ft 11in-380 lbs)

. Lettered 4 Years (4) Football, (4) Basketball, (3) Track and

Field.

· Member of the 1990 Class B State Champion Football Team

. All State, All Suburban, All Area, All Metro, All City Football

1993

.· Captain 1991-1993 Football Team

· Received Athletic Scholarship to Eastern Michigan University

· Discus Record Holder for over 20 years

· Rookie of the Year Basketball

· Member of the 1990 Class B State Championship Track and

Field Team

· Worked at Emerson Climate Technologies

Terence Ross '79- Track and Field

Terry, being inducted for Track & Field, graduated from Robichaud in 1979. Three (3) consecutive years, he earned ALL STATE RECOGNITION in Track & Field.

· In his career, he earned eleven (11) varsity letters: Football (2);

Basketball (2); Track & Field (4); Cross Country (3)

· Post Season Track & Field Honors: All-City, All-Conference, All-

Regional, All-State

· He was 1979 State Champion in the 800 m Run

· Served as co-captain of the 1979 State Championship Team

· For the 800m Run, posted second fastest time in RHS History

(1:54.0)

· For the 3200m Run, posted the 2nd fastest time in RHS History

(10:03.0)

· Ran on the record-setting 4 X 400m Relay, which posted the 2nd fastest time in RHS History (3:21.8)

Upon graduation, Terry earned an athletic scholarship to Prairie View A&M University, in Prairie View, Texas and later, transferred to Michigan State University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Physics

Maxine Vrtis- Coaching

Son Matthew and Kate Vrtis

Graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education from Central Michigan University

Began teaching at Robichaud in fall of 1966

She ran the Girls Athletic Association (GAA)

First girls coach in organized Varsity Sports after Title IX

Instrumental in beginning the Bulldog cheerleading program & Started the first softball team in 1974

She had a passion for teaching and influencing her students

· By providing a wide variety of activities in her gym classes, and because she had a keen eye for talent, Maxine Sandel Vrtis was able to alert and assist athletic coaches to recruit student-athletes.

LOVED all of her students and her students loved her.

She taught physical education and science for 36 years, and retired in 2002

Veronica Stephens '78- Track and Field

Veronica, being inducted for Track & Field, graduated from Robichaud High School in 1978. A talented, versatile student-athlete, she participated in cheerleading, ice skating and was a member of the drill team.

· During the 1970's opportunities for Girls sports were limited

· In her career, she earned three (3) varsity letters: Girls Basketball (1) and Track & Field (2)

· Post Season Track & Field Honors: All-Regional Team

· Establish the school record in the 120-yard low hurdles of: 15.5 seconds.

· In 1977, was the first Robichaud High School girl to become a State Qualifier, in any sport!!

· Ran a leg of the girl's 4 X 100m Relay, which established the first school record in that event.

· Graduated in 1978, one year early!!

Currently, Veronica Huguley Stephens is the first lady of the New Birth Baptist Church of Inkster, Michigan where her husband, The Rev. Joseph A. Stephens (a Robichaud graduate also) is Pastor.

1990 Football State Championship Team- Legacy Team

· Posted best won/lost record in RHS history (12 wins/1 loss)

· In a single game, scored 60 points (v Crestwood), which tied the RHS record.

· For the season, shut-out five (5) opponents

· Produced two (2) first team All-State Players: Ernie Baskin and Tyrone Wheatley.

· Prior to the MHSAA Play-off, attained a #1 ranking by the highest Detroit News.

· · 1990 MHSAA State Champion!!.

Veronica Stephens '78- Track and Field

· 1990 Individual and team accomplishments appear in the RHS Football Record Book 34 times.

· Tyrone Wheatley was voted Most Valuable Player.
