Westwood Welcomes New Board Member Angela Hopkins

 

Angela Hopkins is ready to serve the community

ngela Hopkins of Inkster was recently appointed to the Westwood Board of Education to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Trustee Gregory Stephens.

Ms. Hopkins is active in the Westwood Community School District as a volunteer. She recently participated in the interviewing process for incoming superintendent Dr. Stiles Simmons. She is the grandmother of a student who attends Westwood schools. She is also a graduate of the District.

"I want to be more involved in the community in which I live. I feel that serving on the Board would afford me an opportunity to serve students, parents and community," Ms. Hopkins said.

"Westwood is thankful that Ms. Hopkins agreed to accept the appointment to the Westwood Board of Education," Board President Timothy Emery said. "I am sure she will work well with the Board so that each child in Westwood gets a high-quality education."

Ms. Hopkins will join current Board members Cheryl Bell-Everett, Timothy Emery, Narabia Little, Roderick Means, Sarah Ward and Donald Willis.

The Westwood Board of Education normally meets the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The meetings are held at the Equilla Bradford Administrative Center, 3335 S. Beech Daly, Dearborn Heights. These meetings are open to the public.

Westwood Community School District is a public K-12 district located in Dearborn Heights, Dearborn and Inkster, Michigan. Westwood has caring, dedicated staff and programs suited to prepare students for college and career. Westwood offers STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) courses at every grade level, project-based learning opportunities, and hands-on math. Westwood also offers a Cyber High School and an alternative high school, dual enrollment with UM-Dearborn, advanced placement classes, JROTC, music, robotics, art, career training, and swimming. Students learn through the use of iPads, computers and interactive boards in the classroom. Afterschool programs include Boy Scouts, 21st Century program, and school clubs.
