The Western Wayne County Branch of the NAACP has been energized as they focus on the 2018 elections. They are reiterating their message of the importance of voting within the cities that they serve. The focus area for the primary election was the city of Inkster. They held a candidate forum in May for the 13th District seat left vacant with the resignation of Congressman John Conyers, Jr. They partnered with the City of Inkster, Inkster Housing, Christ Temple, Inkster Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Kappa Alpha and several community groups. President Gina Steward says, "Our ground game is working. We created our Civic Engagement Plan and we have been working the plan.

The Voter Engagement Committee lead by Judy Neal set the goal to get more people engaged in the political process and get more people to the polls on August 7th. Together they conducted several door knocking and phone banking campaigns to reach the residents in Inkster. It was an exciting experience where some new comers were participating for the first time. Judy Neal says, elections have consequences and she wants people to get involved.
