History: The March on Washington

Originally conceived by renowned labor leader A. Phillip Randolph and Roy Wilkins, Executive Secretary of the NAACP, the historic March on Washington evolved into a collaborative effort amongst major civil rights leaders of the day—drawing about quarter-million people together. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered the exalted “I Have a Dream” speech to march-goers from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
