The Blossoming Ladies Mentor Program has been doing some awesome things in the community. They held a Summer Leadership Program for boys and girls, they held a youth beauty pageant and they are ending the year with a Red Carpet Event - 'Best in Downriver Community Awards'.

The CEO of the Blossoming Ladies Mentor Program, Jaylia Washington, has a passion for the community and is always thinking of ways to get people involved. She said, "This event was created to recognize all businesses and community elected neighbors who are involved daily within our community."

Community members nominated people into several categories and the people or businesses that received the top number of nominations made it to the next round where everyone could vote for their choice in the category.

On Saturday, January 5, 2019, the winners of each category will be announced during the awards ceremony.

Washington wanted to come up with a way to give back to the community too. She encouraged High school students to submit essays on how they would impact the community for a chance to win scholarships. The winning student will be awarded a scholarship that night.

The Event will be held at the Roosevelt Hall 11424 W. Jefferson Ave in River Rouge. The Doors open at 5pm and the show runs from 6pm - 9pm. The cost is $12.00.

Vendors will be on site and the Host for the evening are Pistol Pete and Monni B.

This Inaugural event will be the Best in Downriver.
