DEARBORN HEIGHTS– Westwood Community School District Superintendent Dr. Stiles Simmons unveiled a new logo to teachers, staff and school board members as part of the start of a brand identity program for the new year.

The new district logo includes the Robichaud High School's long-time Bulldog mascot to accent the district's new slogan – Bulldog Strong: Unleash your potential. The Bulldog will become the mascot for the district's middle and elementary schools as well.

The marketing campaign is designed to tell the story of the strength, resiliency, diversity, and drive at Westwood Community School District to current and potential parents and students.

Westwood also released its new marketing message: "At Westwood Community Schools, our students, staff, and alumni are proud, resilient and passionate. Inside each Bulldog is a strength and drive that keeps them pushing forward -- past obstacles and toward their goals. This truth is central to Westwood's mission–to sharpen our students' strengths and ready them for the future. We know for our students to truly unleash their potential that strong isn't strong enough -- they need to be Bulldog Strong."

Efforts to rebrand the district began under former superintendent, Dr. Sue C. Carnell, to mark the positive direction of the school district. Dr. Carnell retired at the end of the last school year. Dr. Simmons began his duties as superintendent on July 1, 2018.

"We felt it was important to accelerate those efforts to further signify that the dark days of financial deficit and poor student achievement are behind us," said Dr. Simmons. "Additionally, the new logo, slogan, and message symbolizes our desire to become one district with a focus on student achievement and serving the community. We are now all Bulldogs...and we are committed to the success of our students and the well-being of the community".

The new branding campaign was developed in collaborative sessions with district leadership, school board members, teachers, and staff members.

The district will display its new brand in banners, newspaper and radio ads, and billboards in the near future. Advertising decisions will be made by a new district marketing committee.

A redesigned district website will be debuted in the coming weeks. The district will also launch a new social media push on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook this year.

Westwood Community School District serves Dearborn Heights, Dearborn, and Inkster, and includes Robichaud High School, Westwood Cyber School, Westwood Alternative High School, Tomlinson Middle School, Thorne Intermediate School, Thorne Primary School, and Daly Elementary School.
