The Western Wayne County Branch of the NAACP is inviting you to attend their next General Membership meeting. The meeting will be held at the Caroline Kennedy Library in Dearborn Heights on Monday, February 11th. The library is located at 24590 George and the meeting begins at 7:00pm.

This is one of their four Regional meetings that they hold throughout the year. Everyone is invited to attend.

Pastor Ovella Davis, the founder of The United Communities of America will be the speaker for the evening. The UCOA is a 501 C3 Non Profit Corporation. Their mission and focus is the reduction of crime through the promotion of peace, healing and positive change.

In 2018-2019 The United Communities of America launched Students For Peace, a youth violence prevention pilot program in 2 schools. Robichaud High and Ecorse High. After 3 months, both schools report significant reduction in violence, bullying and altercations. Mayor Dan Paletko of Dearborn Heights, who has witnessed the response from Robichaud students states that "the Students for Peace program is literally saving lives."

The Western Wayne County Branch is looking for people to partner with them as they work to increase awareness on ways to prevent traffic stops and educate drivers about what to do when they are stopped by the police. Their Young Adult committee is bring more people to the table to discuss issues that are affecting their lives as it relates to staying out of the criminal justice system, finding employment and the importance of voting.
