Coffee Hour With Senator Stephanie Chang

State Senator Stephanie Chang discusses issues that are important to the residents in District One.

State Senator Stephanie Chang had an appointment at the Telegram to have coffee, and discuss issues with the people of the community. Chang visits so she can put her ear right on the problems and concerns of the district. She wants the voices from District One to be projected to Lansing with ease and she wants to play interferance for the residents.

The issues seem to focus on health and financial concerns that impacts the residents.

The upcoming EPA public hearing was discussed and Chang asked people to attend and voice their concerns. With the recent issue with Marathon which isn't in Chang's area as Senator, residents asked if evacuation plans are available in the cities that she now represents.

She was also questioned on who should address the number of traffic tickets given out in the community. Traffic tickets in the district are outrageous. There are many traps around set for the officers to hassle drivers. Most outsiders are not aware of this culture, and are easy targets for police. 'They come to the neighborhood for a meeting or sporting event and leave with a $165.00 ticket.

The majority of the district isn't aware of what's happening in Lansing. Most have been working, living in the District and not paying attention. That's the main reason Stephanie has these talks. She wants to make the people she represents more aware. She urges everyone to research different organizations and individuals to gain access more information about their role in the community.

Chang represents the cities of Ecorse, Gibraltar, Grosse Ile Township, River Rouge, Riverview, Trenton, Woodhaven, Wyandotte, Brownstown Township (part). She can be contacted at [email protected] or at 517-373-7346
