Highland Park -On April 12, 2019, My Sister's Keeper (MSK) and My Brother's Keeper (MBK) of Highland Park will host the #iamakeeper Empowerment Zone Youth Resource Fair, a youth led initiative designed to empower over 1000 youth from Highland Park. The Empowerment Zone Youth Fair will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan, 24 Ferris Street Highland Park from 9am to 5pm.

Youth will be bused from Highland Park schools to participate in youth-initiated workshops, activities, and presentations. Exhibitors include mentoring, tutoring, entrepreneurship, STEM/STEAM, sports, and performing arts programs, summer camps, SAT/ACT Prep, and youth initiatives provided by universities, libraries, museums, and the Michigan Science Center. Financial literacy workshops compliments of Comerica Bank and information on mental and physical health will also be presented. The goal of the Empowerment Fair is to equip youth with resources which would otherwise remain unknown, unavailable, or inaccessible to those who live in one of the poorest cities in the nation and to help under-resourced youth realize they have the capacity to stay on the path to success.

Highland Park area young people will join millions of others around the globe who are celebrating the 31st anniversary of Global Youth Service Day during the weekend of April 12-14. Global Youth Service Day is THE LARGEST YOUTH SERVICE and CIVIC ACTION EVENT IN THE WORLD!!!

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) celebrates and mobilizes the millions of young people who improve their communities through service. GYSD is celebrated each April in more than 100 countries with young people working together to address the world's most critical issues and help their communities thrive. "Our country is witnessing a divisiveness not seen in generations," said Steven A. Culbertson, CEO and president of YSA (Youth Service America), the leader of GYSD. "At YSA, we understand that youth service levels the playing field, providing productive spaces where young people can come together for the common good, and be contributors not spectators. We need youth in Highland Park, MI to be leaders and problem solvers today, not just the leaders of a distant tomorrow."
