Splash Bash Free Water Fun Comes to Westland

August 22, 2019

Summer is beginning to wind down and Back to School sales are everywhere, but that doesn't mean all the fun is over yet. The city of Westland is hosting an outdoor family-friendly event which promises to be the last hurrah of summer.

The Fifth Annual Splash Bash will be held on Thursday, August 22, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The fun begins at the H2O Zone splash pad in Tattan Park, which covers over 20,000 square feet of ground and features an 18-foot helicopter sprayer and a massive dump bucket. At 7:00 p.m., the Disney family film, Ralph Breaks the Internet will be shown in the park. As an added treat, free hot dogs, chips and pop will be provided by the city of Westland as well. Kyle Mulligan, Westland's Director of Parks and Recreation, says, "Usually this event takes place at the end of May or early June, but we wanted to do a last big event for families before school starts back up."

The event is free and there will be no additional charge to enter the H2O Zone. "This is a great night to bring the entire family out to the park, dinner will be served with hot dogs, chips and water," says Mulligan. "This is also the chance to experience the Tattan Park H2O Zone splash pad." The H2O Zone opened in 2014 to much fanfare, and has been a welcome relief from the summer heat. Those who plan on attending should also remember to bring a towel or two.

Mulligan says the goal of the event is community engagement, and the Westland Fire and Police Departments will both be on hand with vehicles to interact with the families. Also expected for the evening will be a number of vendor booths staffed by local youth and social organizations. Of course, since a movie will be shown, popcorn will be provided as well.

Mulligan says that the event is open to all, not just residents of Westland. He also adds, "Make sure to bring chairs or a blanket to sit on for when the movie starts."

Tattan Park is located at 1901 N. Carlson, just south of Ford Road in Westland. For more information see the city's website at http://www.cityofwestland.com or the city's Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/cityofwestland.
