Today was the day the city has been waiting for. The Splash Park is officially open.

Over a year and a half ago, Wayne County awarded River Rouge a $300,000 grant as part of its Community Development Block Grant and the Neighborhood Stabilization Fund demonstration project program to build a splash park in the city. The splash park was placed in an unused section of Memorial Park on Jefferson. The splash park is a welcome addition to the park that already includes a skateboard section, playland and basketball courts, pavilion and lots of greenspace for the community. The park is a place for people of the community to gather and spend quality family time.

Wayne County Executive, Warren Evans, was on hand for the ribbon cutting. He said, 'It is important to support communities and parks. This is a value added project to the city and this is the responsibility of the county, to assist cities whenever we can. We want to help enhance the quality of life of the residents and there is nothing more important than the parks.

It is not only for the kids to enjoy, but it is good to see the elderly people enjoying watching the kids run and play in the water."

Today was the grand opening and thus far, the splash park will be open for two sessions; from 11:00am – 3:00pm and then from 3:30pm – 7:00pm.
