The owners of Midget's Market had something special for the community that they love. They remodeled the store where they call home and invited the community over to celebrate.

The Midget's store has been in the Ecorse community at 4106 W. Jefferson Ave for over a quarter of a century and the Gewarges family has owned it for 23 years. After a family discussion, they decided it was time for a complete remodel so that the business could last another 23 years. The family said, "We love the city of Ecorse and we wanted to update the business and property to better service our customers." It was a complete renovation, the interior has new lights, a brighter floor, was painted and completely remodeled. The exterior was painted and excessive signage was removed. The parking lot was repaved and creative landscaping was included to make the outside look as inviting as the inside.

When asked what are the future plans for the store, Johnny said, 'We plan to re-open the kitchen, but we are taking our time to make sure that it's done right. We want to offer another eatery in the city of Ecorse.' Currently, Midget's Market provides groceries, lunch meats, frozen food and household items. Some of the services they provide are an ATM, Bill payment center and check cashing. They also accept EBT and WIC vouchers. They also began selling Liquor at the state minimum pricing as part of the remodel.

During the grand re-opening, people from the community came out and they brought their kids and grandkids. Nykia Martin, who grew up in Ecorse and now is a model was there promoting the Luc Belaire Wine. The patriarch of the family, Mike, said, "I remember her when she was a little girl." He said it was a mini family reunion. Although the business is family owned, they have employees that have been with the store for years. Michael has been with them for 15 years and James has been there for three years.

Everything was free during the grand re-opening on Friday, October 4th. There was food, horseback rides, face painting, petting zoo and music by Lady T. Elected officials, Ecorse employees, clergy, children and community members came out to congratulate them on the new outlook for the business. Mayor Lamar Tidwell came out to participate in the official ribbon cutting.
