This week's Senior Star is River Rouge resident Rosa Lee Bow. Ms. Bow was born at Sumby Hospital in 1940 and has spent her entire life in River Rouge. She was the only girl of five children; three of her brothers have passed away. Her only surviving brother is Robert Wilson.

Ms. Bow graduated from River Rouge High School in 1959. She recalls having had many friends while in school. She married in 1960 and held many jobs in many positions. Now a widow, Ms. Bow finds companionship and inspiration in her children (Roland (deceased) Michael, Carl, Martha, Earl and Mary) and her grandchildren. In all, Ms. Bow had six children, five of whom are still living. She enjoys her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ms. Bow is a member of Union Second Baptist Church, but has been unable to attend services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "I just love people," she says. She enjoys walking around her neighborhood and talking to people, and also spending time in the park.

Ms. Bow remembers River Rouge as a friendly place when she was growing up. "It was nice and quiet," she recalls. She admits she is a quiet person and enjoys crocheting and coloring with her grandkids. Her favorite singers are Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston. She also likes Tyler Perry and enjoys watching game shows on TV.

To young people, Ms. Bow gives this advice: "Wear a mask, be strong, and take care of yourself." She wishes all her friends and relations peace and love in this trying time.
