THE RIVER ROUGE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS COVID 19 READY!

Students using laptops last school year are prepared for learning amid the pandemic

The River Rouge School District is confident that we will successfully educate students during this current crisis. Our district has adopted "Watch Me Be Great!" as our theme for the 2020-2021 school year and that is exactly what we plan for your child to become regardless of the situation. As we prepare to open our doors for the upcoming school year, we have designed learning platforms to ensure that every student will have the best opportunity to learn under the circumstances.

We have a well-documented history in successfully embracing challenges and this crisis is simply another opportunity for us to exceed your expectation. As of this moment, River Rouge School District is planning to open the school year with both a Remote Distance Learning Model and our Newly Created Virtual/Online Academies for grades K-12. We also recognize there are special circumstances that prevent either of these options from being best for your child so we have also created drop in centers for in-person support.

Once state officials allow schools to reopen, parents will have the option to select either the virtual platform or the traditional (in-school) model depending on the child's educational needs. When we return to the traditional model, the River Rouge School District will strictly follow safety guidelines and procedures to provide the safest space for all stakeholders who enter into district facilities.

A: Remote/Distant Learning Model:

Students will begin the 2020-2021 academic year engaged in remote learning, similar to the final months of the previous school year. Students will receive rigorous online instruction and support from their assigned teacher(s) with the same academic excellence that our in-person curriculum and teaching provide.

B: Virtual/Online Academies: The district will also offer a virtual-only learning option for students that are able to work independently to complete the online modules at their own pace. This option is not teacher-led but each student will be assigned a mentor to support his or her academic success. If this option is selected, students will remain in the virtual learning environment for the entire semester.

We look forward to serving you during this school year and just feel confident in knowing that we believe there is opportunity in crisis. For more information about enrollment or finding the plan that fits your needs, please call us at 313-297-9600 and select Option #2 or visit http://www.riverrougeschools.org.

Long Live the Panther,

Dr. Derrick R. Coleman
