LOCKS & SAFES FOR GUNS

Lock, stock and barrel is an old figure of speech defining the totality of a firearm. The barrel through which the bullet is directed toward target;, the stock, which provides means for a grip and the lock as all other essential parts. The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arm's Act made it unlawful for any firearm dealer to sell or transfer any handgun unless provided with a secure gun storage or safety device. In 2005 this law went into practice. If you own a gun you should respectfully secure it.

Getting a lock for a gun can help protect you and others. There is no way to know how a gun will be used. Securing guns with a trigger or cable locking device or locking guns up in cabinets or biometric safes are recommended safe storage. It is suggested to keep ammunition separate from guns. There are some obstructions to these suggestions.

Opposition to safe storage laws argues the delay reaction time in a situation. Some gun rights groups contest quick access. Guns that aren't safely stored can be stolen. Left unsecure gun are dangerous. According to Ideastream, "60% of all gun deaths are suicide. Future gun owner Jacob explains, " Keeping the magazine separate even when carrying could prevent a person from shooting themselves." Safety measures are important.

The American Journal of Public Health in 2015, found a 68% lower suicide rate with states requiring locks for guns. Michigan does not require guns be kept in a safe or locked. "Massachusetts requires firearms be stored with a lock and the firearms suicide rate is three times lower than the national average," according to an ideastream 2020 article. Home invasions have lower rates using a gun as defense.

"Gun locks are another method to make people think just think about it. Not all situations require a gun to resolve an issue, that few seconds a person takes can allow you time to think before you act," says gun owner Jerome.

The future of safe gun storage requires more education and teaching. Own It, Respect It and Secure It is a saying part of firearm safety and education program Project Childsafe developed by National Shooting Sports Foundation. Michigan State Police, Wayne County Sheriff, and numerous local law enforcement agencies have partnered with Project Childsafe.

Contact your local police precinct for safety kit distributions. Citizens can receive a cable lock simply by presenting their identification card. Some local gun shops offer free cable locks. All of the local gun shops sell a variety of safety locks for guns.
