Western Wayne Family Health Centers has expanded the opportunities for all to access primary care services with the launch of its brand-new mobile clinic on May 27th. The inaugural event was done in partnership with Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency and targeted people experiencing homelessness who wanted to get COVID19 vaccine and a physical.

The mobile unit will be used to take health care to neighborhoods and agencies serving people who may have difficulty getting to one of the WWFHC centers in Inkster, Taylor, Lincoln Park or Dearborn. "We plan to offer regular stops with the unit in the parking lots of partner agencies, public housing and places like churches and mosques", says CEO Linda Atkins. "Taking our medical services, especially COVID19 vaccine right now, directly to people is vital to making sure that all can get the care they need."

WWFHC was able to purchase the mobile unit, a large RV specially fitted out to be a small health center on wheels, using grants from the federal government. Inside there is an exam room, work areas, vaccine storage unit and a rest room. Atkins continues, "We have a provider team of a nurse practitioner and medical assistant who will be taking the mobile clinic out to make regular stops to see patients for care-and referring them to one of our centers if they need other care".

Agencies, faith communities and other organizations interested in having the mobile unit come to their site can contact Lisa Rutledge at 313-561-511 X227 to discuss.

WWFHC is also open to anyone who wants to make an appointment for medical, dental, or behavioral health care at any of their locations. Call 313-561-5100. Most insurance is accepted, including all Medicaid plans, and there is also a sliding fee scale based on income for people without health insurance coverage.
