Clean Up, Clean Up Everybody do their share

Volunteers groom Ecorse Creek

Anthony DeCuir

Members from local city government, residents and community groups spent their time on Saturday, July 10th cleaning Ecorse Creek

Community volunteers came out again to help clean up the Ecorse Creek. This team is continuing with the work they started last year. Each month they come out and do a little bit more to make this area a clean pathway for water transportation. This is the second Clean Up this summer with two more to go.

Volunteers traveled down the Ecorse Creek in canoes and kayaks and pulled debris from the water and along the sides of the creek. During this day at the two locations they removed over 1,000 pounds of trash. Lincoln Park had 16 volunteers and removed 335 pounds of trash from the waterway and shoreline. Ecorse had 21 volunteers and pulled 733 pounds of trash and woody vegetation from in the creek and on the shoreline.

This is definitely a team effort. Teamwork from the DPW departments from the City of Ecorse and the City Lincoln Park played a key role in making this a special event for all participants. At Council Point Park in Lincoln Park, the restroom facilities and pavilion were unbelievably clean and ready for our volunteers. At Pepper Park in Ecorse, DPW workers not only brought tables and chairs but also stayed to assist with debris removal and boat clean up using their heavy equipment.

Local Videographer and photographer, Anthony Decuir, used his talent to document the event to be shared with the world. He created a short video highlighting the day's activities. You can find his video at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxOKh4Tx8WY&t=6s

There are two more clean ups this summer. Join with this group of people on the Ecorse Creek on Saturday, August 14 (9:00 am till noon) and on Saturday, September 11 (9:00 am till noon). Volunteers are needed to pick up litter along the shoreline and in the water. Everybody is welcome, along with any and all non-motorized boats.
