What happened to the constant sanitizing at the stores?

November 11, 2021

The Covid Pandemic is still real. I notice so many different things that make me say mmmmm when I am out in the community. But the other day I realized that this was occurring more often.

Since it is a coin shortage, many stores suggest that you use your debit/credit card or have exact change. No problem, I can abide by that simple request. Sometimes people give me the evil eye as I dig in the bottom of my purse to make the exact change. Oh well, it's gives them a chance to just relax and practice patience.

But what has gotten under my skin is so many of the establishments have a note on the credit card machine that says "Use Pen". Really?? You want me to use a pen to tap 'No Cash Back' and sign my name. But when I ask, 'How often do you wipe this pen off, you look at me like I have an extra eye on my face. So I repeat, 'How often do you wipe this pen off that you are requiring me to use? The answer finally come out. 'When I get time. Really? So I ask, "Do you have some wipes back there?", since I don't see any hand sanitizer at the register. 'No', she says, 'the wipes are at the front entrance." What? So I guess I should have went to the front entrance, got a sanitized wipe, came back in and wiped down the pen.

Well, instead of keeping my hand sanitizer in my car, I will keep it in my purse or carry my own wipes.

I still want to know, what happened to the constant sanitizing, freely available hand sanitizer and wipes that used to be at the check outs in the stores. Let's not take it for granted... Covid is still real. This lesson taught me to make sure I take care of me. I let my guard down and learned a valuable lesson.
