Two years in and we still need to wear a mask

Be safe - Wear a Mask

The number of cases of people having a positive test for COVID-19 has been increasing over the last two months. Michigan is still one of the states with a very high number of cases and deaths. Then why are people still not wearing a mask or face covering when they are around people? I have even seen people come into the gas stations, banks and businesses without a face covering or mask even though there is normally a sign on the door that says, Mask is Required. But they walk right in.

President Joe Biden signed an Executive Order on his first day in office that impressed on people to wear a mask for the first 100 days. Now a year later, people are still dying from Covid-19 and some people are still not wearing a mask.

If a majority of the people in the United States would have worn a mask as he requested, by May 2021 we probably would have turned the corner. But unfortunately, we are still saying goodbye to our loved ones at such a high rate.

I pray that people will start wearing their mask more so that our numbers will be such that all schools can open fully and the number of students, teachers and staff testing positive will go down substantially. We need that to happen so that our kids can attend school and get the education and resources they need to be healthy and successful.

What is it going to take to make that happen? It is really simple. It's four easy steps. The same four steps that we have heard since March of last year are the same steps that we need to do today. Say it with me... 1) Wear a mask or face covering, 2) Practice social distancing (stay at least six feet away from the person next to you), 3) wash your hands often and 4) take the vaccination. We all know what we need to do, so let's do it.

As of January 10, 2022, the Covid-19 numbers for our area are Michigan – 1,855,658 Cases and 29,955 Deaths; Out-Wayne County – 203,019 Cases and 3,686 Deaths. We must do our part so that the frontline workers, doctors, nurses and students can get their lives back
