Ecorse

The Ecorse City Council will meet Tuesday, April 30 beginning at 7:30 p.m. City Council meetings are held in the Council Chambers of the Albert B. Buday Civic Center, located at 3869 W. Jefferson Ave.

On Saturday, April 27 an Earth Day Cleanup will take place at John D. Dingell Park from 9 a.m. to noon. All supplies will be provided and volunteers should dress for the weather. Volunteers can register via a QR code at the city’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/cityofecorse/.

Westland

Mayor Kevin Coleman and the city of Westland will host an Autism Awareness Walk on Sunday, April 28 at Westland City Hall at 1 p.m. Doors will open at 12:30 and participants will walk around city hall property. Westland City Hall is located at 36300 Warren Road.

Area Wide

Saturday April 27 is the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Take Back Day and all Michigan State Police posts will participate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can safely discard of all expired and unused pills, however no liquids, inhalers, patches, or syringes will be accepted. If you can’t make it to a state police post find a participating agency at https://www.dea.gov/takebackday.

Wayne County

The Wayne County Treasurer’s Office will be closed April 25 and 26 due to the NFL Draft that will be held downtown. Payments can be made online at http://www.treasurer.waynecounty.com or at any payment kiosk.

A Spring Frog and Wildflower Hike will take place on Thursday, May 2 at Crosswinds Marsh in New Boston from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants will enjoy a hike through the marsh while searching for frogs and identifying wildflowers. Cost will be $4 per person and registration is required. Register at the county website at https://www.waynecounty.com/. For more information call 734-261-1990.

Saturdays in the Park returns to Hines Drive beginning on Saturday, May 4. Hines Drive will be closed between Ann Arbor Trail and Outer Drive each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Saturday, September 28. This will allow park visitors to run, walk, bike, and skate safely on a traffic-free road. Parking is available at Nankin Mills Park in Westland and Helms Haven Park in Dearborn Heights.
