Over the last month, the Cities of Ecorse and River Rouge have become the latest cities that have seen an increase in the number of shootings of innocent bystanders. The leadership in both communities have been diligently working to restore peace to the communities. They believe that it is going to take the community coming together to share information about these last incidents as well as any new shootings that may occur.

Jerry Flowers - Deputy Director of Public Safety for Ecorse and DaSumo Mitchell - Deputy Directory of Public Safety from River Rouge released the following statement about the latest shootings and their plan

to address this issue.

"With the recent uptick in shootings and violence in our communities, the time has come for us to take a more aggressive stance in combatting these people who are terrorizing our communities, with reckless gun violence.

Our citizens are being caught in the crossfire of these reckless shootings and have been killed or seriously injured when these perpetrators are carrying out violent vendettas against one another. The shootings have and are affecting numerous cities throughout the downriver area and are connected to similar incidents in Detroit, Inkster and Romulus.

As a result, Ecorse will work collaboratively with River Rouge, and several of these agencies who have been plagued with these senseless acts of violence, as well as the FBI Violent Crimes Task force to pool our resources, and share information in an effort to track down and apprehend these violent offenders to take them off our streets and prosecute them through the federal justice system to get them the maximum sentences.

We'd also like to point out, that even though the police will be working extensively to capture these offenders, citizens can still assist by sharing information if they witness an incident or have knowledge of someone who's committing these crimes. Citizens can choose to stay anonymous when doing so.

There is an old African proverb that says, "It takes a village to raise a child". We choose to use that analogy in regards to us working together with the community to take back our streets and make them safe again for all the decent, hardworking folks who take pride in their communities."
