Livonia Coffee Shop Hosts 2nd Annual Classic Car Show

Anastasia and Katie's Coffee Shop in Livonia will host its' Second Annual Good &Strong Classic Car Show on Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. . Classic car enthusiasts are invited to bring their classic cars-and not so classic cars-to show off while giving back to an organization working to increase employment opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. A $20 donation is requested for those wishing to show their cars. All funds raised will benefit Anastasia and Katie's Coffee Shop and Mi Work Matters, a non-profit organization formed in 2018 that advocates for employment opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Anastasia and Katie's Coffee Shop is the first business venture of Mi Work Matters.

The event's organizer, Ian Edgar, 29, has been employed at Anastasia and Katie's Coffee Shop since its opening in 2019. A classic car enthusiast himself, he came up with the idea for the coffee shop to host a car show to draw attention to both the shop's offerings and its mission to develop job skills and independence in its employees. Its inaugural car show last year hosted 60 classic cars and owners eager to show and talk about their classic vehicles. "Our last car show was a huge success. It was such a good time," he says. "I just love the atmosphere because you see all types of different cars and you get the back stories behind them and what the owner thinks about the car, it's pretty awesome."

The Good & Strong Classic Car Show is free for spectators and will feature food and beverages for purchase, both breakfast and lunch will be available from the coffee shop and there will also be an outdoor hot dog stand. A 50/50 raffle will take place along with a raffle for donated gift baskets. All makes and models or cars are welcome and a Spectator Favorite and Coffee Shop Employee Favorite Award will be given to two lucky vehicle owners. Edgar will fill a dual role as master of ceremonies and deejay, offering all variety of classic rock music. The show will go on, rain or shine.

"I would definitely like to see a lot of cars there, I just love the atmosphere of car show because you don't have any animosity or competition, it's just people willing to share about their cars and I like that," says Edgar. "I want people to know that if they want to come, they would be benefitting a very, very good cause. Not a lot of people with disabilities have employment and by coming to the car show you are supporting the coffee shop which is one of the few places that people with disabilities are employed."
