DETROIT - Today, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-12), Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), Rhea McCauley, Niece of Rosa Louise McCauley Parks, the family of Rosa Louise McCauley Parks, the Rosa Parks Family Foundation, and Richard Moreton, USPS District Manager, held a dedication ceremony to rename the Grand River Post Office in Detroit the "Rosa Louise McCauley Parks Post Office."

Last year, Congress passed Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib's legislation to designate the Post Office building located at 4744 Grand River Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, after Rosa Parks, mother of the civil rights movement, and it was signed into law by President Biden. The building is located just a block away from Rosa Parks Boulevard and located near her home when she lived in Detroit.

"It is an incredible honor to recognize Mother Rosa Louise McCauley Parks with a renaming of the Grand River Post Office here near her home in Detroit," said Congresswoman Tlaib. "I thank President Biden, Senator Stabenow and Senator Peters, USPS Michigan 1 District and the McCauley & Parks family for their support in the introduction and passage of this bill. May this dedication and ceremony serve as a continual reminder of the lasting impact Mother Rosa Louise McCauley Parks made on Detroit and our district's history and may we continue to honor her legacy as the mother of the civil rights movement."

"Naming this post office after her is one special way that Michiganders can honor her heroism, bravery, and the critical role she played in the civil rights movement."

In addition to being a civil rights leader known across the world, Rosa Parks is especially adored in Detroit and the 12th Congressional District. She lived in Detroit for nearly 50 years and worked extensively with Congressman John Conyers.
