Lilly's Intricate Beads

Series: SPOTLIGHT ON LOCAL BUSINESS | Story 2

Lilian Uduma has a passion for creating fashion with beads

The history of beads dates back 40,000 years as talisman, status symbols, amulets, and barter. The historical, geographical, and thematic features make every bead special. Beads come in various sizes and for some, the purpose is merely decorative pieces like necklaces, bracelets or other assortment on gowns and other attire. Others use them as part of cultural values, religion, or spiritual reasons. The Telegram Newspaper spoke with Detroit based, internationally known beadmaker Lilian Uduma, learning what got her started and where we can purchase some of the jewelry she creates.

2. What certificates, training, or merits do you have? I have Bachelor's of Science from Nasarawa State University in Keffi Nigeria

3.What or who influences and motivates you? A school assignment in an elementary school in Nigeria actually unlocked my hidden talent for bead making and design of fashionable beaded jewelries.

4.Describe your average workday. An average day includes 5 hours of crafting creating unique products for sale and another 1 hour of looking for outlets, pop-up shows, and events to display my work for customers to buy.

5. What do you want people to know about you? I would like people to know that I am focused on my customers and making sure they are satisfied with their purchases. All my products are durable and quality jewelry. Whether I am to make a custom design or fix the beloved beads that they purchased from someone else; I love giving them the best and they should not settle for anything less.
