Washington, DC | http://www.adc.org | December 18, 2023 – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is accepting applications for the inaugural Senator James Abourezk Public Affairs Fellowship. Created in tribute to Senator Abourezk's invaluable contributions and extraordinary vision that led to the formation of the ADC, this fellowship seeks to empower the next generation of leaders in the areas of political science and public policy. Arab American students and recent graduates, either at the graduate or undergraduate level, who are seeking practical experience in these areas are highly encouraged to apply, with preference given to those focusing on civil rights or US policy.

The fellow selected will work directly with ADC's National Government Affairs and Advocacy Director Chris Habiby on a wide range of issues related to the Arab American community, and will support the Executive Director and Communications team as needed. ADC is open to in-person, virtual, or hybrid participants as circumstances require, and those selected are expected to be available 20-30 hours per week.

Desired Qualifications:

Current or recent student in public affairs

Experience in analyzing complex and/or novel subjects quickly

Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and responsibilities

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills

About The Scholarship

The Senator James Abourezk Founders Fellowship is an important initiative aimed at fostering the educational pursuits of promising Arab American students and recent graduates. Senator Abourezk was a voice for justice and equity, incredibly influential in advocating for the rights of Indigenous peoples in the United States. This fellowship will help support students, inspired by his example, who concentrate their studies on public affairs.
