Keep Food Safety in Mind When Purchasing at Fairs and Farmers Markets

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is reminding consumers to be aware of food safety laws when purchasing food products at fairs, farmers markets, roadside stands, or online. Michigan's Cottage Food Law allows for the production and sale of food products based on their relatively low risk for foodborne illness, including baked goods, fruit jams and jellies, candy, granola, dry dip and soup mixes, popcorn, and nuts.
