Detroit

Councilwoman Latisha Johnson (District 4) is hosting hands-only CPR and AED training on Friday, May 3 at the Samaritan Wellness Center located at 55555 Conner from 5 to 7 p.m. Interested individuals should register in advance. Find out more by calling Councilwoman Johnson’s office at 313-224-4841.

Garden City

The Garden City City Council will meet on Monday, May 6 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Civic Center Council Chambers located at 6000 Middlebelt Road.

Garden City Presbyterian Church operates a food pantry every Tuesday from noon to 3 p.m. Call ahead to reserve a bag of food at 734-421-7620. The church is located at 1841 Middlebelt Road, just south of Ford Road.

River Rouge

The River Rouge City Council will meet on Tuesday, May 7 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Court Room at City Hall, located at 10600 W. Jefferson.

Wayne

The Wayne Downtown Development Authority will host a Food Truck Rally each Wednesday in May at Wayne City Hall from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more details contact theM Wayne DDA at 734-722-2002.

Westland

The Friends of the Westland Public Library will host their quarterly used books sale from Friday, May 3 through Sunday, May 5 at the William P. Faust Public Library of Westland. Sale hours for Friday and Saturday will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday noon to 3 p.m. The library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway.

On Saturday, May 4 the Westland Historical Village Park will host a Military Through History program, highlighting military conflicts through history with reenactments and weapon demonstrations. The event will run from 10 a .m. through 4 p.m. The park is located at 857 N. Wayne Road.

On Wednesday, May 8 the Westland Rotary and the Norwayne Community Citizens Council will present a Family Jamboree from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Barns Community Center located at 32150 Dorsey. The event will feature food, music, entertainment, games, and a bike raffle. For more information email [email protected].

Wayne County

The Western Wayne County NAACP will host their Monthly Membership meeting on Monday, May 13, 2024. The meeting will be held at the Belleville Library located at 147 4th St Belleville at 7:00pm. Area Wide

The Michigan Cancer and Research on the Environment Study (MI-CARES) is seeking volunteers to participate in a study to learn how exposures to forever chemicals or PFAS, impacts cancer risk. MI-CARES hopes to recruit 100,000 Michigan residents between the ages of 18 and 49 from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds with a focus on those residing in environmental justice hotspots such as metro Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Saginaw.
