A DARK DAY IN AMERICA

October 17, 2019

Election Day November 3, 2020. President Donald Trump will lose this election and what will he do? Most people that know him and written books have said he will not go quietly into the night. The ex-President will say that the election was rigged by left wing extremist and blame the deep state for his loss. Many in the right wing will say that this is the end of America and some may that to the street because they want single party government that expresses their white extremist issues. America is changing and not to their liking. President Trump will not turn over power easily. He may hide up in the White House allowing no one to enter, because in his mind he has all the answers to all the world's problems.

Eternal vigilance was the theme for the founding fathers in terms of our democracy. One party rule is in direct contrast to our two party systems and checks and balances. "When fascists or Nazis or communists did well in elections in the 1930s or 40s what followed was some combination of spectacle, repression and salami tactics taking out opponents a slice at a time". Most people were distracted, some were imprisoned and others were outmatched." Czechs, Slovaks, Russians, and Germans all voted not knowing this would be there last free election for some time to come. Turkey now has a strong man and he is unwilling to allow free and fair election. Many of the Dictators or Strong men of our time seem to be what President Trump seems to be attracted to and has turned his back the other great democracies in NATO that has kept the peace from the end of World War Two. President Trump jokes of a third term are not funny. The real question is can our democracy survive four more years of Donald Trump. "Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century" author Timothy Snyder.
