The Youth Branch of the Western Wayne County NAACP host a Founder's Day Trivia Competition

ROMULUS – On Saturday, February 8, 2020 the Youth Branch of the Western Wayne County NAACP hosted a Founder's Day Trivia Competition. This was the first event for the re-established youth branch under the leadership of Youth Advisor, Jessika Kennedy. Youth from seven churches throughout the area participated. They were; Pentecost MBC – Romulus, New Jerusalem MBC – Inkster, Love Joy MBC – River Rouge, Christ Temple COR – Inkster, Christian Faith Ministries – Garden City, New Hope MBC – Taylor and Gethsemane MBC – Westland.

For two hours, youth answered questions on Black History, History of the Western Wayne County Branch, Religion and the NAACP and Founders of the NAACP. It was stiff competition as the winning team won by only four points. The winning team consisted of members from New Jerusalem and New Hope. The winning team members were presented with a youth membership into the NAACP that was sponsored by Operation Refuge. All participants received a Certificate of Participation.

Pastor Arthur Willis of Pentecost MBC stated that, "The kids had a great time and learned a lot of information that they can share with their parents." Pastor Velma Overman - 1st Vice President and Religious Affairs Chairperson of the branch said, "The Church and the NAACP is a combination that works together for the betterment of our people and will result in success."

The snacks were donated by The PEN Enrichment Center and the certificates were donated by the Telegram News.

The next event for the Western Wayne County NAACP Branch is the 'Get Out The Vote' (GOTV) Street by Street Campaign which will run from Saturday, February 28th through Saturday, March 7th. The Campaign includes Phone Banking and Door Knocking. The final day Church Challenge will be headquartered at Christ Temple Center of Refuge 27741 Carlysle in Inkster.
