RIVER ROUGE - On Wednesday May 5, 2021, the River Rouge School District officially hired Mrs. Michelle Kyles as Principal of the River Rouge High School. Principal Kyles was appointed interim principal last November and she has without question earned the opportunity to become the permanent principal of River Rouge High School. Principal Kyles joined the district as an

assistant principal for the 2017-2018 school year. In that time, she has distinguished herself as an advocate for urban education and all members of our educational community.

Principal Kyles wholeheartedly believes children will find the greatest success when they are afforded the opportunity and access to caring adults. Consequently, she sincerely understands the importance of nurturing both staff and students to ensure everyone feels valued and appreciated.

During this process it became clear that Mrs. Kyles was an exceptional candidate.

Principal Kyles is a phenomenal leader with an amazing ability to create comfortable spaces for people to find common ground on the most challenging issues in education. Highly respected teachers pledged their support for Principal Kyles. According to Mrs. VanAuken, "Education is

not for the faint of heart, especially now. Mrs. Kyles has worked toward building a strong, caring community that can then feel supported in aiding the students who so desperately need us".

As noted by other members of the faculty and staff, "This year has been challenging beyond

anything any of us could have ever imagined. Under perfect conditions, schools all over the county often struggle to meet the needs of their scholars. Mrs. Kyles is attentive, disciplined and has an uncanny ability to get things done. Her steadfastness, professionalism and productivity, along with her positive attitude, make her a delight to serve under. Her ability to successfully lead the school during these challenging times was been well received by all stakeholders."

Principal Kyles completed her academic studies at Eastern Michigan University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Master of Arts in Leadership and Counseling,

and Post-Masters work in Leadership as well. Her formal education and training have served her well as she has documented success.

The River Rouge School District is elated to secure the services of Principal Michelle Kyles and looks forward to our continued success under her stewardship. We know for certain that she is driven to create and sustain a culture of high expectation with a laser focus on delivering quality educational services for our students.
