Last month, During Downriver Delta held their 13th Annual Legislative Breakfast in Detroit. This year's topic was Reimagining Public Safety which connects their mission of a connected region.
They recognized several officers and heard from Congressman (13th District) Shri Thanedar and State Representative (District 1) Tyrone Carter during the breakfast. The elected officials shared legislative changes that are taking place in the State and Country. The guest speaker was Patti Kukula who is the Executive Director of Detroit Public Safety Foundation. Her efforts are to assist the Detroit Police and Fire departments with funding programs, equipment, training, and youth programs. They recently worked with the Melvindale Police Department to create their women's locker room. When the facility was built there weren't any women officers, now the department has three women. She spoke about the importance of partnerships and thinking outside of the box to make positive changes to improve public safety in neighborhoods throughout Southeastern Michigan.

The legislative breakfast offers an opportunity for elected officials and community leaders to explore issues that affect people in the region. This year's event was held at Kemeny Recreation Center in Southwest Detroit and was their first in-person event since the Pandemic.
