Southwest Detroit park to host a free fun-health-music-food-salute fest

DETROIT, MI – Eden Park, a 5½-acre property in Southwest Detroit that is being repurposed into an eco-friendly park for residents in three cities, will be home to a free festival this weekend.

The May 27-28 afternoons festival at 12001 Gleason in Detroit includes live music, food, a petting zoo, free health screenings, a salute to veterans, dance lessons, and a courageous chef competition, among other activities. It is being put on by the Tri-City Community Development Corporation.

"This is our second year putting on this festival, and we wanted to marry fun with healthy living, which mirrors the goal of Eden Park," explained Dr. Loretta Smith, CEO for Tri-City CDC. "This park is for residents in Southwest Detroit, Ecorse and River Rouge, and so we really want them to be part of the celebration."

Free health screenings will be offered both days by Hygienist on Wheels, the University of Michigan Chronic Pain and Fatigue Research Clinic, Wayne State University Sight Savers and Authority Health.
