INKSTER - Think about it, Talk about it, Plan it and then Do it. The IT that was the topic of discussion on Monday, March 25, was Summer Enhancement Activities for the youth in Inkster. A cross function of community groups came together at Operation Refuge Headquarters to listen and learn from each other. Each organization that was in attendance has a history of hosting programs and activities for the youth living in Inkster. Since the City of Inkster has been without their school district for many years, these groups have stepped up to serve the youth of the community.

Velma Overman, Executive Director of Operation Refuge, brought everyone together with the purpose of partnership and collaboration. She challenged the attendees to 'Think outside the box and come up with what can make our youth great?'

The adults in the room shared how their upbringing was different than how many of the youth are growing up today. They realized that the kids of today focus is more sedentary; staying in the house, playing video games, using their phones and using social media. From the discussion it was realized that there are many activities happening throughout Inkster that will get the youth engaged and active.

The organizations will continue to meet and develop a City wide calendar of activities, camps and programs that will enhance the youth. Some programing will also be designed to target the parents and guardians to expose them to different experiences too. They have their starting point; They have thought about it; They have talked about it and are ready to plan it. In order to reach the level of success that the groups are striving for, they will have to continue to think, talk and plan and repeat. They are all up to the challenge.
