NAACP – WESTERN WAYNE COUNTY BRANCH WELCOMES JUDGE GREG MATHIS AS KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR 21ST ANNUAL FREEDOM FUND DINNER

Inkster, MI: – Renowned Judge Greg Mathis is the keynote speaker for the 21st Annual Freedom Fund Dinner of the NAACP – Western Wayne County Branch. The Woodlands of Van Buren will host the event at 39670 Ecorse Road, Wayne MI. Tickets, sponsorship opportunities and advertising in the souvenir program book are available at

The theme for the dinner is “Criminal Justice in the 21st Century” and funds raised will be used to award scholarships to high school seniors and support the efforts of the branch to pursue the NAACP mission “to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.” This year’s dinner will also provide an opportunity for those gathered to celebrate Westland Councilwoman Tasha Green as the first African-American woman elected to that position in the city’s history, Madelyn Williams for her efforts to encourage and support community engagement during her years at DTE Energy and the work of Better Men Outreach and their work with young men in the areas of education, job training and legal challenges. Pastor Jean Overman of Christ Temple City of Refuge/Operation Refuge in Inkster will be the mistress of ceremonies.

The dinner will also include the presentation of a lifetime achievement award to former U.S. Representative John J. Conyers, Jr. for his more than 50 years of dedication and service to the people of Michigan as the longest serving African-American member of Congress in history.

The doors to this event will open at 4:30 p.m. with the soothing sounds of local artist Pamela Wise with the program starting at 5:00 p.m. Dinner tickets are $50.00 for adults and $25.00 for youth ages. The entire community is invited to join us.
