Little Mr. & Mrs. Inkster Pageant Returns

On Saturday May 28th, 2022 the Inkster community center accepted sponsorships and plenty of community support to host a pageant. The pageant's main objective was to select a new Mister and Misses Inkster. The event was a great way to engage the community as well as getting the younger generation excited about community service and the betterment of Inkster as a whole. The pageant was split up into three divisions, Little Ms/Mr (ages 7-9), Prince/Princess (ages 10-12) and finally Mrs/Mr Inkster (ages 13-17).

They began by introducing the host, Whitney Holmes, Ms Inkster of 2015. Holmes gave a warm greeting and big smile. She then introduced all 4 of the judges ,Mr. Robert Husband, Ms. Jessie Shelby, Ms. Leslie Elderhart and Councilman Steven Chisholm and asked that they stand for a round of applause. She proceeded to explain that all of the contestants were asked to showcase their talents. However, it was not mandatory and would not affect their overall scores if they chose not to participate in the talent portion. The winners were selected based upon their stage presence and over all enthusiasm.

The talent portion lasted for about 45 minutes. The contestants showcased a range of special skills, none less interesting than the one before. It was very beautiful to watch the excitement on the children's faces as they talked about and or demonstrated their passions. There was a large range of entertainment that night, from gymnastics to dancing, dancing to singing, fashion, art and even cooking. The talent was abundant and very evident.

After the talent portion we were given a 20 minute intermission. During the intermission we were encouraged to utilize the vendors the sponsors put together. In addition to helping the pageant come to life, Mr John Dawson offered free photography for the event. The other sponsor, All Things To Enjoy, set up a free store for everyone to relish in. Both Dawson photography and All Things To Enjoy are Inkster natives and have been active in Inksters development. All Things free is a clothing store that allows you to shop free of charge located at 3801 Inkster RD.

Followed by the intermission was a fashion show. Some of the contestants wore gowns and suits from the All things free store. While others wore their favorite pieces from their own personal closets. Regardless, the fashion show revealed the truly bold and confident personalities that each and every contestant embodied. I as well as the rest of the audience applauded and encouraged the contestants to walk the "runaway" as fierce and as amazing as they looked.

The only thing left to do was to crown the winners. The judges thought long and hard. Ultimately they decided that in the first division, Little Mr/Mrs, Aurielle Hearns and Krystan Bragg deserved the title. The second division, Prince and Princess winners were Deveion Jones and Jemeia Fredenburg. Last but not least, in the third and final division for Mr and Mts Inkster and Mr and Mrs Kreation and Robert Zip! As the winners the are each responsible for completing community service and create change for the city of Inkster.
